Vampire literature is my favourite kind of literature! It doesn’t require a lot of introduction so I’ll get right on with the links.
This site is absolutely great, it has various vampire stories online. My all-time favourite is Carmilla, which is a little haunting but not too scary at all. It’s also not that long. You can also read Bram Stoker’s Dracula on this site, and read up on real vampires!.
This book seems very interesting. I haven’t read it so I don’t know if it’s as great as it seems, but it looks good.
If all this vampire literature made you scared, here is your solution. An Vampire hunting kit!
You can even choose a regional variety if you want something more special. These kits were actually sold up to at least 1851!
Dear Basje,
Thanks for adding me to your blogroll! I was an English major like you are now currently.
I love the Victorian Era too, and I see it as Romantic not nasty, repressed, etc. The usual stereotypes. I love Vampires too:)
I will be visiting your blog regularly now. I find it very fascinating and well put together.
Yes, there are so many silly stereotypes, while actually the Victorian era was positively thrilling, I think.
And thank you! I’ll be reading your blog to, we can do some link exchanging :)

Hi Kenya,
that’s a tough assignment! I don’t think there is one big list of all the vampire literature in a chronicle order. I did find a list that has a bunch of the most important works, you could use it as a base and from there research the works separately. The list is here: http://oak.cats.ohiou.edu/~waltje/classes/vampires2008/
I hope that helps a little!
Kind regards,
Hello, I am writing a literature paper on vampires and I was wondering if you could guide me in the right directions.
I have to discuss the heyday of the vampire in the 19th century, and the history of vampires in literature.
Thank You!
Hi Debbie! Your best bet is probably to look into Le Fanu’s “Carmilla” which is usually seen as the first real vampire novel, and was inspired by the gothic literature of the eighteenth century (like Walpole or Ann Radcliffe.) Then you could look into Coleridge’s Christabel which is a poem about a lady vampire, Polidori’s “The vampyre” (Polidori was a friend of Lord Byron and Shelley, and Byron has made mention of something like a vampire in one of his poems, so that’s interesting!) After that there’s a bit of a gap in real vampire literature, until Bram Stoker’s “Dracula” is published at the end of the nineteenth century, which I guess can be considered the heyday, since this is the most popular vampire novel.
I hope this helps a little!

I disagree with the people who hate this idea. But I did see the ads on some websites whenever I watch a video such as CartoonNetwork.com, and I don't have a problem with ads and I support this move along with a few others who agree with this idea.
