The summer races have opened with the victory of an English horse, Ceylon, belonging to the Duke of Beaufort, much to the vexation of the sportsmen of France, who, since the triumph of the unrivalled Gladiateur on the English turf, had pleasantly made up their minds that the days of humiliation for French horse-flesh were passed for ever. Miss Susan Durant of London, the Reynold of sculpture is executing her wonderful life-size likenesses of the Queen and all the royal children, big and little. The skill and tact with which she contrives to combine the most lifelike fidelity of form and expression with a grace and dignity worthy of classic days, have enabled her to make of this series of portraits at once a faithful record of her royal sitters and a work of the highest value and interest in an artistic point of view.

Having read a lot of Jane Austen, I had thought there would be juicier gossip! It’s a little dissappointing. I’ll try to find some better.
Unrelated: Check out this new blog: Victorian Houses Blog. It’s both a real estate blog and a blog on Victorian houses, with many good links!
Reading the title “Paris Gossip,” I thought of Rimbaud & Verlain, and the book review that I just read from nymag.com:
