A bit of a Halloween spirit with this cute Victorian witch!
(Her dress seems inspired on 18th century Rococo dresses and paniers, how intriguing! If anyone wants to analyse that, please feel free!)

What great pictures you found. The first one looks like Little Bo Peep as a Witch!
[…] Picture courtesy of The Victorian Era […]
Great pictures – especially the ghost, Is there any information on the source of that image ?
Chance: I got them off a Livejournal community, I think here: http://community.livejournal.com/19th_century
Oh my gosh this is so mutch our style! We are trying to develope our own style, called Medo, witch is ispired by victorian, edwardian, 1920’s and 1950’s dresses, but a bit gothic. These pictures where really nice! :D The last one looks like something from a horror silent movie somehow!
Brilliant! The photograph showing the man and the ‘ghost’ reminds me of an amazing exhibition at the Met I was lucky enough to see a few years ago: “The Perfect Medium: Photography and the Occult” They released a wonderful book to accompany the exhibition and here is a link:

I have just found your site through the Two Nerdy History Girls blog. I am really enjoying it so far. The costume the little girl is wearing is probably meant to depict Mother Goose who was often illustrated wearing this sort of rococo “shepherdess” outfit with a pointed hat. There are a couple of good images here….. http://www.mamalisa.com/?t=hes&p=1484
iv always wanted to know if it was really hard to live back then but at the same time it looks like fun ..
[…] Isn’t there something totally creepy about Victorian-era things? This inspiration board is probably more appropriate for a Halloween party than a wedding, but why not. Haunted gothic manors, Victorian hairstyles and dress, apothecary bottles and tonic labels, ravens and masks. And Edgar Allen Poe, of course. Anyone have Halloween plans that look anything like this? Oh, and just for fun, check out these witchy, ghosty pics. […]
